To move toward delisting Spout Run and its tributaries, project partners propose to establish a Stakeholder Steering Committee to guide delivery of the following outputs and outcomes during the two-year grant period:
Outputs
- Baseline chemical, bacterial, and benthic data for each tributary in the Spout Run watershed, collected according to an approved Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP).
- Two completed demonstration projects featuring Best Management Practices (BMPs) for homeowners, farmers (i.e., livestock exclusion), riparian lands, or urban areas.
- A comprehensive, community-developed watershed management plan that incorporates specific steps to achieve the TMDL for Spout Run and tributaries.
- One or more grant awards for implementation of the Spout Run watershed plan.
- An online digital library of multimedia communication tools to inform and inspire other communities.
Outcomes
- Improved understanding of options for achieving TMDLs in the Spout Run watershed.
- Informed and engaged stakeholders and broadened support for watershed stewardship.
- Changed behavioral norms and community commitments regarding water-quality
protection in the Spout Run area. - Secured funding to begin implementing the plan to delist Spout Run.
- Increased likelihood of successful community-supported watershed planning across the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
